Scale
Male | Young Adult | Wyvern

Georgia Patten is the creator of this character, which was initially developed in 2010.
Scale is a creature shaped by contradiction—born in conflict, raised in gentleness, and living as a bridge between warring worlds. His very existence is a testament to the resilience of hope and the uneasy possibility that, even in lands divided by ancient grudges, reconciliation can begin with the smallest of lives.

His story begins in the aftermath of devastation: hatched beneath a willow tree, sheltered only by memory and the tangled roots that cradled his egg. Scale was discovered by the forest’s survivors, a family of squirrels who’d seen too much war and loss. Under their cautious watch and the wary care of other woodland denizens, he grew up swaddled in secrecy and the gentle rhythms of nature. These unlikely mentors taught him to read lichen for direction, to pilfer (and sometimes regret) honey from hornet nests, and to believe that kindness could be stronger than blood feuds. Yet even as laughter echoed through leafy hollows, Scale carried an unspoken ache—a yearning for answers about the past that haunted his dreams with smoke and screaming names.

Empathy lies at Scale’s core. He is kind-hearted, impulsive, and sometimes painfully naïve, rarely hesitating to help those in need—be they friend or former foe. This sincerity draws others in, but his eagerness blinds him to danger, and he often shoulders guilt for wounds he did not inflict. His loyalty is fierce, especially towards those who once protected him, and his solitude is sacred—he can often be found basking in sun-dappled glades or savouring the taste of wild herbs. Yet his quirks are what truly set him apart: he converses with mushrooms (quite literally), polishes his scales on quartz, and hums tunes that lure earthworms from the soil. He fights with cunning and ferocity, preferring silence and shadows to spectacle—a survivalist who learnt to win dirty when cornered but who wishes for peace more than victory.

Physically, Scale is a marvel—a tapestry of contradictions rendered in gold. His scales are sleek and polished, catching the light in seamless patterns that run from his wide, triangular head down his slender frame. His talons, worn from rocky paths, are short and strong; his three antenna-horns curve back above his expressive, slit-pupiled eyes, always alert to the world’s undercurrents. His wings, reminiscent of a bat’s, are delicate yet resilient, their membranes mapping old scars and veins whenever sunlight filters through. Built for speed and agility, he glides effortlessly between trees and launches into sudden sprints, his spade-tipped tail both weapon and rudder.

In Scale, the legacy of old wounds and the promise of peace intertwine. He is mistrusted by both dragon and wyvern, yet dares to reach across the divide, forging friendships where none should be possible. His journey is one of self-discovery and quiet heroism—a golden thread of empathy running through the tangled heart of a fractured land.
